Welcome from Headteacher Ms Kimberley Matthews. Salmons Brook School opened in September 2022 as part of the Edact Trust. It is a special school for ages 11-18 with SEMH needs. The school delivers an innovative, ambitious and highly specialised curriculum with integrated therapeutic support, aims to improve lives by nurturing potential, fosters a therapeutic, student-centred learning environment, and emphasizes community cohesion and diversity. The staff focus on developing self-esteem and secure, lasting relationships and welcome feedback.
Admission requires an Education, Health and Care Plan naming Salmons Brook School, with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) as the primary need. The school must be suitable for the young person’s age, ability and aptitude. The attendance of the young person must be compatible with the provision of an efficient education for the young people who already attend the school and with efficient use of resources. Salmons Brook has places for 70 young people (10 places per year group, Year 7 – 13). For a child to be admitted, the school must be named, by a local authority, in the child’s EHCP. Students can be offered a place and start a placement at any time during the school year. Admissions are through consideration of papers, assessments and observations; if the school feels it cannot adequately meet the child’s needs, a placement will not be offered. The local authority will consult the school before naming Salmons Brook on the EHCP, and there are procedures for appeals if a place is offered but not taken or if the local authority does not name the school.
