"Knowledge through the light of faith"
Cardinal Newman School places Catholic faith at the heart of school life. Masses are celebrated in accordance with the liturgical calendar, chaplaincy work supports students at different stages of their spiritual journey, and prayer services and liturgies are held in the Chapel. The school offers retreats (Alton Castle in Year 8 and Soli House in Year 9 & 10) and operates a chaplaincy and parish outreach programme, along with faith-based activities such as the JP2 chaplaincy award and involvement with the Kenelm Youth Trust (Soli House, Alton Castle and Birmingham Catholic Youth Service). The Catholic Social Teaching approach and service to the local community are emphasised through outreach to charities and care homes, and through Masses with local parishes. The school also promotes prayer, liturgy, and opportunities for students to participate in faith experiences both in and out of school.
A very warm welcome to Cardinal Newman Catholic School. Our school is named after Saint John Henry Newman, and our mission statement “Knowledge through the light of faith” is at the heart of all we do. We aim to provide the best pastoral support and involve parents actively, believing every student is challenged to do their best and become the best person they can be. We look forward to welcoming you and your child as members of our school community.
Clubs
Catholic life is integrated into daily life through the Chaplaincy, prayer and liturgy, retreats, Masses, outreach with local parishes and charities, bereavement support (Spectrum), and chaplaincy awards (JP2). The Kenelm Youth Trust provides faith experiences such as mission trips and pilgrimages, and students participate in religious education and community service as part of the Catholic life of the school.
Admissions criteria distinguish Baptised Catholic children (including those looked after or previously looked after, those attending feeder Catholic Schools, and staff dependents) from Non-Catholic children, with further priority given to siblings and those attending feeder schools. If applications exceed the published number, distance (shortest straight-line distance) determines priority, and a waiting list is maintained open until the Autumn term. There are notes on special circumstances, representation of multiple births, and separate Year 12 admissions considerations for Sixth Form.
