SEND Provision

West Coventry Academy describes itself as an inclusive mainstream school with a SEND/Intervention department (SID) that supports pupils across four areas of need: communication and interaction; cognition and learning; social, emotional and mental health; sensory or physical difficulties. The interventions are research-based and may include CBT-inspired approaches. The school works with pastoral teams and classroom teachers to develop a toolkit for emotional regulation and to remove barriers to learning. The percentage of SEND students varies between 24-26%. Identified SEND students have learning plans reviewed each term, and the school collaborates with external services (The Complex Communication Team, SEMHL, Looked After Children’s Education Service, Educational Psychology Service, CAMHS, Mental Health and Schools Team) and may refer to additional services such as School Nursing, Primary Mental Health Team, Compass Aspire, CAMHS, Social Care, Mosaic. Progress for SEND students is monitored with data in each subject, and parents receive progress updates.
