A welcome message from Mr Phil Bennett, Associate Headteacher, describes Twyford as an aspirational, Christian, 11–18 comprehensive school with a broad and ambitious curriculum, strong pastoral support, and a high progression rate to post-16 pathways. It highlights the school’s Christian ethos (10:10 Ethic), extensive extra-curricular provision, SEND support, and community focus, including a commitment to developing students’ gifts and leadership across years 7–13.

Curriculum Highlights

Broad and balanced curriculum with Mathematics, English and Science as core, providing a secure foundation. KS3 language provision includes French or Spanish, with some students studying Latin; Year 8 offers German for more able linguists; GCSE languages include at least one modern language (French, German or Spanish). All students take ICT, History, Geography, Music, Drama, PE, Art and Religious Education; RE GCSE is taken one year in advance of other subjects. ICT is used across subjects; Personal, Social and Health Education and Citizenship is followed by all students. Music specialism with wide ensemble opportunities and extensive extra-curricular music activity; Arts emphasis across Drama and Music; extensive sports programs and a variety of clubs (including non-sport clubs like bee-keeping, chess, Engineering Society, Twyford Christian Fellowship). Sixth Form offers a wide range of A-Levels; progression paths include opportunities to study at partner schools within the Trust; strong focus on Careers, Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) linked to Pastoral Programme. Independent learning is emphasised, including regular home study and Level 4 Task style work; use of Copia and Go4Schools as online platforms to support learning and reporting.

SEND Provision

7% of students in years 7-11 have Education, Health and Care plans (EHCPs) and there is an additionally resourced provision specialising in Speech and Language development and ASD.

Admissions Criteria

190 Year 7 places are offered each year: 150 Foundation (Christian) places, 21 World Faith places, and 19 Music places. Admissions are governed by oversubscription criteria, with Looked After Children and Previously Looked After Children given priority. There are Supplemental Application Forms for Foundation, World Faith, and Specialist Music, and distance, sibling, and deanery factors are used as tie-breakers. Sixth Form admissions are handled separately with its own criteria and timelines. Open evenings and in-year admissions procedures are also described in the admissions materials.
