Waverley School acknowledges that a small number of its pupils have special educational needs (SEND). Support may include individual or small group work, in-class support from a Teaching Assistant or HLTA, additional resources via the Resource Base (secondary and primary), access arrangements for examinations, intervention from external agencies, and a pupil homework club. The school uses robust tracking and assessment processes, with termly progress checks, regular parent consultations, and Annual Reviews for pupils with an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The SEND team includes named staff (SENCOs) and is supported by Birmingham Local Offer information and related services. Parents may contact the SENCO team for further information or copies of documents.
Admissions criteria include: (1) Looked-after children or children who were looked after and immediately after became subject to an adoption, child arrangement order, or special guardianship order; (2) Children who live nearest to the academy within each category; (3) Children with a brother or sister already at the academy; (4) Children of staff. Within each category, priority is given to those who live nearest the academy, calculated by straight-line distance. The school provides information on entry into Reception, Year 7, and in-year admissions, with links to Birmingham City Council for additional admissions arrangements.
