Chowbent was founded in 1860 by members of the Unitarian congregation of Chowbent Chapel. The Unitarian faith and ethos has shaped the school for more than 160 years. The congregation are a religious community rooted in the Judaeo-Christian heritage, open to all who wish to explore the spiritual dimension of their lives in an atmosphere of freedom, reason and tolerance.
