Head Teacher's Message

Welcome to Lansdowne School! Lansdowne School is situated a short walk from the centre of Brixton. We have a purpose built school for young people aged 11-19 years who have autism, or a speech and language delay, as well as special educational needs. We are an active part of the community and rely on transport links to support independent living; Forest School and the Duke of Edinburgh Award build resilience; Post 16 students welcome all to our Enterprise Café. Students follow individual learning pathways; tours offered Thursdays at 11:30am. Linda Adams, Executive Headteacher.

Curriculum Highlights

Lansdowne School curriculum is based on four individual learning pathways which allow our young people to access the National Curriculum; broad KS3-4 curriculum including English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Art, Physical Education, Food Technology, Guided Reading, Personal and Social Development, Life-skills, Computing, Music experience. The six areas of learning at Turney School are: Communication, language and literacy; Mathematical development; Personal, social and emotional development; Physical development; The world around me; Expressive arts and design. Turney curriculum emphasises child-centred, individualised learning with Engagement and Semi-Formal pathways and uses therapy support and Autism-specific approaches as reflected in Education Health and Care Plans.

SEND Provision

The school applies a holistic approach to learning, and works closely with speech therapists, the school doctor and nurse, as well as outside agencies to enable all children and young people with special educational needs to access the academic and social curriculum.

Admissions Criteria

Admission to Lansdowne School is through the appropriate Borough’s SEND department. All students will need an Education Health Care Plan or Statement which identifies either autism or speech and language delay or disorder with associated learning difficulties. See Lambeth, Southwark, Croydon.
