Curriculum Highlights

Opening Minds Competencies underpin Year 7–8 curriculum. Broad and varied curriculum for Year 7 and 8 with a transition to a mainstream equivalent timetable in Year 9. Post 16 Study Programmes to support progression towards further education, training or employment. Focus on foundational knowledge, strong reading and literacy, vocabulary and writing stamina, and numeracy to prepare learners for GCSE pathways or equivalents.

SEND Provision

The school provides trauma-informed approaches and a range of therapeutic interventions to support learners’ emotional and mental health, including talking therapy, relaxation therapy and physical therapy.

Admissions Criteria

Admissions are made via referral by the Local Authority for learners with an Education, Health and Care Plan for Social, Emotional and Mental Health Disturbance. Offers depend on EHCP documentation, a robust assessment of need (including risk assessment where required), previous educational records, and the school’s ability to meet the learner’s needs. The learner and family must agree to the placement; some cases (e.g., autism or other complex needs) may be deemed unsuitable.
