"DREAM BIG"

Ambition Belonging Responsibility

Head Teacher's Message

Welcome message from Headteacher Jonathan McNamee emphasising DREAM BIG, partnership with families and community, and a commitment to high-quality, evidence-informed teaching that helps children become confident, curious and ambitious.

Curriculum Highlights

Brownhills West Primary School has developed a well-resourced, intelligently sequenced, knowledge & skills-rich curriculum, informed by the best research evidence available, with reading at its heart. The EYFS curriculum is matched to the Early Learning Goals (ELGs) and aligned with the new, non-statutory Development Matters guidance. All subjects are taught in-line with the subject policies devised by our subject leaders with guidance from the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher. Across KS1 and KS2, our reading, writing and non-core subject curriculum is designed to either compliment current learning or revisit prior knowledge. Substantive and disciplinary knowledge help build a firm understanding, as information is locked in as part of knowing and remembering more to make learning stick. Through a growth mindset approach, we expect children to ‘Dream Big’ so that they become determined, resilient, ambitious, motivated, curious and independent learners. The cultural capital that we deliver includes the ability to communicate clearly, to be broad-minded, to be tolerant of others, to be confident, to show creativity and to problem-solve; we believe these essential life skills will enable every child to face the next stage of their education and prepare them to be responsible and successful citizens in this ever-changing world.
