Bridie Dorning, Principal, welcomes you to High Park School, describing it as a successful, specialist school for children and young people aged 3–19 with complex needs. The message highlights a safe, dynamic learning environment, a curriculum that makes use of a multi-professional therapeutic team, and a commitment to communication and physical/emotional regulation as foundations for learning and adulthood readiness.

Curriculum Highlights

Curriculum blends National Curriculum content with evidence-based autism-specific programmes such as SERTS and the Autism Education Trust. Total communication learning environment to enable communication, interaction and understanding ( Intensive Interaction, objects of reference, core vocabulary, photographs, symbols and words). Personalised curriculum with age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate planning, small classes and high staff-to-pupil ratio across Primary, Secondary and Post-16. Learning Pathways include Semi-Formal Pathway, Formal Pathway and Pre-Formal Pathway.

SEND Provision

High Park is described as a school that provides a safe, positive, inclusive learning environment with a multi-professional team and personalised support. It operates a bespoke low‑arousal environment with flexible use of spaces and offers a Primary, Secondary and Post 16 provision with specialist facilities such as Rebound rooms, swing rooms, an aromatherapy space, quiet rooms and outdoor learning areas from every classroom. Pupils are taught in small classes with a high staff-to-pupil ratio. A range of interventions is supported by a multi‑professional team employed or commissioned by the school. Child‑centred planning and careful assessment ensure the curriculum is engaging and personalised to support progress. The school collaborates with CAMHS and other health/education partners and includes professionals such as Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy, Aromatherapy and Educational Psychology, with ongoing EHCP planning and parent/carer involvement.

Admissions Criteria

The Bradford Admissions Policy for Special Schools applies. Places are allocated by the Local Authority based on the nearest available school which can meet the child’s special educational needs. Parents and carers may state a preference and the Local Authority will take this into account.
