Pupils with SEND are supported well; leaders have a strong focus on helping them to make progress through the use of teacher ‘SEND Champions’. The Marvell College provides an inclusive environment for pupils with SEND and works in compliance with the SEND Code of Practice (January 2015) and the Equality Act 2010. The college identifies needs early, uses the SENCo, and maintains a SEND register. SEND types include Communication and Interaction (SLCN, ASD); Cognition and Learning (MLD, SpLD including Dyslexia); Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH, including ADHD); and Sensory and/or Physical Needs. A team of Teaching Assistants delivers targeted interventions; progress is monitored; annual reviews occur for EHCPs; parents/carers are kept informed; external agencies (eg CAMHS, Social Care, Family Support, IPaSS, Educational Psychology, Speech and Language Services) may be involved; Transition arrangements and breakfast clubs are provided for SEND pupils; staff receive SEND-focused training; examination access arrangements are coordinated with the Exams Officer and SENCo; and the college works to make activities accessible (eg via transition visits, Health Care Plans, assistive technology).
