Welcome to IKB Academy – a unique and popular school for Years 10–13. The Head of School, Mr P Headeach, highlights a STEM-focused, inclusive environment with specialist facilities, strong employer partnerships for work experience, and high aspirations to prepare students for university, apprenticeships or direct industry entry.

Curriculum Highlights

Futura curriculum spanning the 2–19 age range with a structured knowledge sequence, emphasis on closing gaps and early intervention, and development of core literacy and numeracy skills. Status as a STEM studio school with a focus on progression to Post 16 education and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Cross-curricular elements including PSHE, SMSC, CEIAG and British values delivered through PSHE lessons, tutorials, assemblies and targeted activities. Year 10: two separate weeks of work placements (Terms 4 and 6) plus one week of enrichment to develop employability skills and support the STEM curriculum. KS4 structure including core subjects (GCSE English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, and sciences) and a range of options such as GCSE Computing, GCSE Product Design, Level 2 Engineering, Level 2 Construction, and more. Sixth Form options within Futura Sixth, with STEM emphasis (A levels in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Maths, Further Maths; Product Design; Computing; BTEC L3 Engineering, Construction, Applied Science, Forensic Science; and other related routes). Year 9–10 Transition Work materials and transition support across key subjects. Literacy development and focused reading programmes (Year 10 and 11) as part of the literacy provision. A broad enrichment and CEIAG programme integrated across the curriculum.

Admissions Criteria

Entry is subject to GCSE/Key Stage 4 results. A minimum of 5 GCSE grades at C/4 or above, with one in English or Maths.
