Head Teacher's Message

Welcome to Welland Academy. The principal, Jo Anderson, describes the school as happy and positive, committed to providing opportunities for every child to develop socially, emotionally, academically and physically. The academy is inclusive, forward thinking, and focused on core values—kindness, bravery, patience, honesty, curiosity, independence, resilience and confidence—and values partnership with families.

Curriculum Highlights

We use CUSP (Curriculum with Unity Schools Partnership) as a base curriculum for Science, History and Geography. CUSP is described as Connected, Cumulative and Coherent. Modules are deliberately sequenced for robust progression. There is an emphasis on oracy and vocabulary acquisition, retention and use to break down barriers and accelerate progress. There is a deliberate focus on a rich diet of language and vocabulary. The curriculum underpins academic development, creativity, problem solving, as well as physical development, well-being and mental health. The school supports developing talents through providing chances to learn instruments and compete in sporting events. Lunchtimes and extra-curricular activities provide opportunities to develop and apply a wealth of skills. Children are encouraged to make choices, contribute to school and local community. Working with families and the local community to create an aspirational environment where everyone is valued and successes are celebrated.
