Head Teacher's Message

The Head Teacher emphasises a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum delivered by specialist teachers, strong progress and SEND-support, a robust personal development programme, extensive enrichment and trips abroad, and a committed pastoral system to support all pupils and families.

SEND Provision

The Fernwood School provides SEND support through a dedicated SENDCO and team, with all teachers receiving regular training on how best to support and stretch pupils with additional needs. The school works with outside agencies to provide support for young people, has a Mental Health Lead coordinating provision, a Well-Being Mentor, a school nurse and a counsellor, and runs drop-in sessions at designated times to help pupils talk to someone. Aims include strong pastoral support and promoting pupil wellbeing.

Admissions Criteria

The Fernwood School prioritises catchment-area residents when applying to be offered a place, with normal admissions coordinated by Nottingham City Council. For in-year applications, requests are coordinated by the City Council. Families must provide documentation to confirm home address (original and current Council Tax Bill by 31 October 2025). Appeals follow the Nottingham City Council School Appeals process.
