Curriculum Highlights

The formal curriculum is mapped to the National Curriculum, with KS3 subjects including English, Maths, Science, Art, Drama, Music, Computing, History, Geography, Modern Foreign Languages (French and Spanish), Philosophy, PE and Design Technology. Vocational options at level 2/3 include Travel and Tourism, Health and Social Care, Creative iMedia, ICT, Construction and Criminology. There are five Excellence Days each year and Personal Development lessons during Form Time Learning and weekly assemblies. The Sixth Form offers a range of A level, BTEC and diploma courses, with enrichment, EPQ and careers as part of the curriculum. The school uses a Guided Pathways process starting in Year 9, including careers interviews and a Pathways Post-16 interview. Reading and literacy are central to learning, with STOP. LOOK. LISTEN, Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) in English, Reading Plus, and a wide programme of reading-related activities via the Media Reps and GSA Times/Journals. The wider Personal Development curriculum covers PSHE, British Values, democracy, equality and inclusion, and a strong emphasis on employability and life skills. The Duke of Edinburgh Award is offered (Bronze, Silver, Gold). Wraparound Care

George Spencer Academy uses a wrap-around curriculum consisting of the Formal, Wider and Hidden Curriculum. After-school supervised study is available as Period 6 in the Lower Site Resource Centre (LSRC) until 4:20pm (4:00pm on Wednesdays). The LSRC provides an area for quiet study and/or additional computer time. Sixth Form students have dedicated study spaces in the Sixth Form Resource Centre and common room, and there are free classrooms in the Sixth Form buildings.

SEND Provision

The Inclusion Team is led by SENCo Mrs S Clark and Inclusion Leader Mrs L Wiseman. The team includes Learning and Progress Assistants who provide in-class support and tailored keyworker sessions, and Specialist Intervention Caseworkers who provide 1:1 and small group support outside of the classroom. Admissions Criteria

The Spencer Academies Trust academies observe local authority admissions protocols and are non-selective. Priority is given to children from feeder schools and partners within the Trust family. To register interest in a place, parents should fill out the registration form and staff may then be in touch regarding visits.
