Ethos & Values

Care Commitment Community

Leeds West Academy actively promotes British Values through challenging opinions and behaviours in form time. Year 7 and 8 pupils study British Values within their weekly Citizenship lesson. British Values are delivered through assemblies and SPACE Days to help students understand the democratic processes on which law is made and applied in Britain. The school adheres to the Public Sector Equality Duty under the Equality Act 2010 (s.149), which requires eliminating discrimination, advancing equality of opportunity, and fostering good relations. The values taught include Democracy, the Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect and Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. The academy also provides safeguarding and has a Prevent strategy to safeguard against radicalisation and extremism, promoting Modern British Values and encouraging discussion of challenging issues in a safe environment.
