Ethos & Values

To be a centre of excellence for therapeutic education. To provide a safe and secure environment, to promote the overall development of children with emotional, social and mental health difficulties. To help children overcome barriers to learning. To make a measurable difference to the lives and well-being of the children and families. We are passionate about the quality of our work and are always committed to transparency and improvement. We embrace diversity and work towards making our service as accessible as possible. We recognise the strengths, abilities and needs of children and their families. We value flexibility and we offer an individualised, needs led approach. We are committed to an integrated multi-disciplinary approach to the treatment of all children and families. We strive to empower children to improve their engagement in learning and to realise their potential. We nurture and develop self-esteem, emotional resilience, positive social relationships and independence. We understand behaviour as a communication and work to develop the children’s ability to understand and express themselves and enable them to self-regulate. We are committed to working in partnership and shared decision making with children, families and networks.

Curriculum Highlights

All children follow the national curriculum, with the emphasis and teaching style tailored to SEMH and SEND. Maths and English take place each day; other core subjects are timetabled throughout the week. Religious Education is included within the PSHCE scheme of work, alongside Relationships and Sex Education as part of PSHCE. There is a strong emphasis on Personal Health, Social and Citizenship Education (PHSCE), with circle times, school council and community meetings to promote pupil voice. PE, including off-site swimming and wellbeing groups, are taught as separate lessons. Two daily targets (learning and behaviour) are set and reviewed; progress is tracked via ICPs and termly meetings. Educational visits and a residential are part of the curriculum. EAL provision is coordinated by the SLT with additional language support as needed.

SEND Provision

Gloucester House SEND provision is designed for children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. All pupils have SEMH difficulties and many have additional SEND, including social/communication challenges and specific/moderate learning difficulties and mild sensory impairments. The school is small (up to 21 children aged 5–14 across Key Stages 1–3) and operates with an integrated mental health and education model supported by a multi-disciplinary team.

Admissions Criteria

Referrals come from education, CAMHS and social care. Referrals are considered with a referral letter, typically accompanied by an EHCP, and funding in principle must be agreed for processing. The initial assessment involves two assessors from the referral panel (and may include a home visit). If appropriate, a start date and staggered integration are planned, with a case coordinator coordinating an integrated education, health and care plan and liaising with family, child and network.
