"Building Skills, Maximising Potential"
Headteacher Alastair Burnett warmly welcomes visitors to Step by Step School, an outstanding independent day school for autistic children and young people (aged 4–19). The school offers highly specialised, ABA-based teaching, a range of therapies, individualised programmes, and a supportive, calm environment. All pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan, and the site provides up-to-date information about life and learning at Step by Step.
Step by Step School provides highly personalised autism-specific teaching based on Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) with access to Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT) and Occupational Therapy (OT) and uses a Total Communication approach.
Admissions require a primary diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder, an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), agreement from the Local Authority or another funding source to fund placement, appropriate age/skills/behaviour profile to fill the available place, and parents are required to work cooperatively with the school.
