Headteacher Alastair Burnett warmly welcomes visitors to Step by Step School, an outstanding independent day school for autistic children and young people (aged 4–19). The school offers highly specialised, ABA-based teaching, a range of therapies, individualised programmes, and a supportive, calm environment. All pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan, and the site provides up-to-date information about life and learning at Step by Step.

SEND Provision

Step by Step School provides highly personalised autism-specific teaching based on Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) with access to Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT) and Occupational Therapy (OT) and uses a Total Communication approach.

Admissions Criteria

Admissions require a primary diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder, an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), agreement from the Local Authority or another funding source to fund placement, appropriate age/skills/behaviour profile to fill the available place, and parents are required to work cooperatively with the school.
