Curriculum Highlights

The Cherry Lane Way: learning built on prior knowledge, identification and practice of key vocabulary, active learning through practical activities, and Next Step Questions. Early Reading and Mathematics: use of Phonics Bug with a book banded reading scheme; daily phonics in Reception–Year 2; Mathematics Mastery framework across the school. National Curriculum coverage for core and foundation subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Design Technology, Information Technology, Art, Music, Modern Foreign Language (French), Physical Education; PSHE and RE following the Hillingdon syllabus. Specialist teaching in music and sport; instrument tuition (violin, keyboards, guitar, steel pans); annual concerts and a school choir; after-school activities such as Martial Arts and Street Cheer; sports coaching and competitive school activities. Swimming is taught as a life skill, with opportunities in Year 6 to swim at a local pool.

Cherry Lane Primary School is an inclusive school with an Inclusion Team. It provides a wide range of SEND interventions, including social skills programmes, Circle Time, Pyramid Club, Family Work with the inclusion staff, counselling, mentoring (Learning Mentor), speech and language assessment, access to occupational therapy/physiotherapy on referral, 1:1 tuition and in-class support, targeted literacy and numeracy interventions, Booster groups (e.g., small group maths and literacy support), access to in-school mental health services such as counselling, and regular progress meetings with parents and carers.
