"Engage, Inspire, Achieve"
Here at The Polygon School we want to encourage and develop a motivation for learning that will stay with our students throughout their lives. Our aim is that students are safe, healthy, happy and that they are engaged in our curriculum. We know that if we get this right our students will make a positive contribution to society in the future. We pride ourselves on the relationships that we have with our students and this is underpinned by our belief that students of the school should be valued and treated fairly regardless of their background or ability. At The Polygon School we aim to remove any barriers to learning and give our students a positive educational experience that can then lead them onto success in the future.
Every pupil who attends The Polygon School has an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The EHCP is a legal document issued by the Local Authority that entitles each pupil to education and to have their special needs met at the school. The school serves pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, with these needs and any additional needs clearly stated on their EHCPs. EHCP plans describe how the school, with Health and Social Care where appropriate, will meet the pupil’s needs and the outcomes the school works towards. All pupils have an Annual Review meeting each year to review progress towards EHCP outcomes, attended by parents/carers, the pupil’s tutor and the SENDCO, with representation from other professionals as appropriate. The voices of all parties are fully taken into account in reviewing the plan. The school uses targets for behaviour and learning each term, and pupils can earn points toward rewards. The school can refer to an Occupational Therapist and a Speech & Language Therapist shared with other SEMH provisions, and can access support through the School Nursing Team. The school directly employs a Counsellor who works 1:1 and in small groups on two days per week.
