Curriculum Highlights

Bespoke curriculum tailored to individual needs with a focus on functional learning and life skills. WISERR Curriculum (Well-being, Independence and Co-operation, Social Communication, Enjoyment, Resilience, Regulation). Pathways Department learning and criteria linked to the WISERR curriculum. PMLD Curriculum for students with profound and multiple learning disabilities. FE Curriculum post-16 with OCR Life and Living Skills qualifications and OCR Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT. Preparation for adulthood is at the heart of the curriculum with real-life contexts (e.g., meal preparation, travel training, community engagement). Inclusion of life skills, independence and employability through school activities such as café/tuck shop and planned work experiences.

Admissions Criteria

All pupils admitted to Woodlands School must have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Placements are agreed by the local authority Provision Panel following detailed assessment and consultation with partners. When admissions occur during the year, Woodlands may arrange short-term, part-time attendance to support transition. There is an annual intake of students transferring from Year 6 to Year 7, with feeder school visits and progression planning. The LA identifies suitable placements and the school provides information and home visits as part of the process.
