A message from Headteacher Linda Gooden emphasising KES as a prestigious, ambitious and inclusive 11-18 school with high expectations, strong home–school partnerships and external collaborations; the school values diversity and a harmonious learning community.

Curriculum Highlights

Key Stage 3 curriculum includes English, Science and Mathematics as core subjects, plus Design and Technology, History, Geography, Music, Art, Physical Education and a foreign language; Religious Education is compulsory and sex education and citizenship are taught. Key Stage 4 offers GCSEs with English, Maths and Science compulsory; humanities and a foreign language are included up to age 16; wide range of optional GCSE subjects including Art, Music, Drama, Physical Education, second foreign languages, Computing, Engineering, Design and Technology and Health and Social Care; there is an independent learning programme for some students.

SEND Provision

The school offers an inclusive curriculum and Achievement Support to help all students progress, including pupils with SEND; parents can contact Achievement Support for SEND information.

Admissions Criteria

The school has a Pupil Admission Number (PAN) of 230 students per year group for Key Stages 3 and 4. It has seven feeder primary schools. Admissions are managed by the Local Authority. The school is routinely oversubscribed for Year 7. In-year transfers are handled via the Local Authority with a defined process, including a potential phased start and prioritisation of individual transfer discussions. The school also notes it may admit pupils over PAN through Reintegration and Placement Panel, Hard to Place Protocol and Managed Move processes.
