Music is taught by a specialist music teacher and follows Kapow’s scheme of learning to ensure clear progression in knowledge, skills and understanding within the national curriculum and the MMC (Model Music Curriculum) recommendations Each class learns to compose pieces, play a range of instruments, sing regularly and learn to use musical notation We have class sets of glockenspiels, keyboards, ukuleles and percussion instruments for regular ensemble performances We have a school choir that rehearses weekly and performs at events such as Bolton Music Festival, Young Voices and local carol services We offer the opportunity to join Rock Steady Music School to learn an instrument or sing as part of a group with regular performances Our Music Development Plan and Our Music Curriculum Plan outline the curriculum and development trajectory

SEND Provision

Sharples Primary School has a Resourced Provision for Children with Visual Impairments, including Qualified Teachers of the Visually Impaired, Specialist Teaching Assistants and a Technician; pupils learn to read and write using the medium that suits them (giant print or braille); they learn specialist IT skills and use up-to-date equipment; a Habitation Specialist teaches mobility and independence skills.

Admissions Criteria

Nursery admission from age three according to LA criteria; Reception admission from the beginning of the autumn term after the child’s fourth birthday; there is a limit of 30 children in each age group; all classes contain pupils of only one age group.
