Head Teacher's Message

Belvue School aims to be a centre of excellence for students with special educational needs, offering personalised support, independence, respect for all, and high expectations in a warm, welcoming environment.

Curriculum Highlights

A broad and diverse curriculum provides access to the Foundation Stage and the National Curriculum but modified by school staff to meet the needs of students with moderate to severe learning difficulties. The curriculum includes practical and functional activities to promote life skills, independence and community learning. Year 7 uses a thematic approach to support transition from primary school, with enrichment experiences and links to parents and the wider community. The Skills Builder Framework is embedded across the curriculum to explicitly teach essential skills for preparation for adulthood. All pupils have outcomes from their Education Health Care Plans (EHCPs) and teachers collaborate with a range of multi-disciplinary professionals. Core subjects include 40-minute lessons with 6 lessons per day; 20 minutes per day of Phonics in streamed groups each morning before regular lessons start. PSHE/RSE are taught by subject specialists to support consistent messaging about relationships, boundaries and respect. Physical Education is included within every phase and adapted to promote inclusion and wellbeing.

Wraparound Care

After-School Care: Yes

After School Club runs on Mondays and Tuesdays with a mix of activities; a holiday programme is offered; the Extended Schools Co-ordinator, Mrs S Virdee, shares a new schedule at the start of each half term and sign-ups are communicated via the school office.

SEND Provision

Belvue High School is a special school that caters for the needs of secondary aged pupils with learning difficulties and associated communication, behavioural, sensory and physical needs.

Admissions Criteria

Belvue School is extremely popular and oversubscribed; admission requires the EHCP to be forwarded by the SEN Officer for assessment of whether the school can meet the pupil's needs; a current education psychologist or other professional report may be requested; prospective parents and carers are welcome to visit during the admissions process, and Open mornings are scheduled monthly for tours.
