Curriculum Highlights

Curriculum split into three pathways (Pathway 1: complex learning needs/pre-informal learning; Pathway 2: semi-formal learning with functional literacy and numeracy; Pathway 3: formal subject curriculum). Primary curriculum favours a topic/thematic approach; progression to adulthood within pathways. KS4/5 accreditations include life skills, travel training, community access, enterprise and employability; options may change yearly; aim for nationally recognised qualifications (e.g., entry level certificates). Literacy taught via Read Write Inc. (RWI) and Oak National Academy; Whiterose maths scheme; TEACCH approach; assessment via Tiffield levels and EFL. Pathways 1 and 2 continue with thematic formats in KS3; Pathway 3 uses subject-specific curriculum for KS4/5; ongoing formative assessment and end-of-unit assessments. Long-term plans with two-year cycles; cross-curricular integration across the curriculum.
