Ethos & Values

"Love God, Love Learning, Love One Another"

Love Respect Wisdom Generosity Compassion Forgiveness

St Thomas' is a Church of England Primary School. Our Christian foundation underpins everything that we do, with core values and daily collective worship informed by the school's Anglican ethos. The school uses the Fresh Approach Collective Worship from the Diocese of Canterbury and the Diocese of Rochester, and includes EYFS-specific worship arrangements (e.g., Jack in the Box worship for Amethyst class).

Curriculum Highlights

Knowledge-rich, broadly balanced curriculum across Art, Computing, Design and Technology, English, Geography, History, Mathematics, Music, P.E., Phonics and Reading, PSHE, Religious Education, Science Curriculum is underpinned by enquiry and curiosity with a focus on being contextually connected and sequentially built year by year Vocabulary development is a key focus; teachers plan to ensure all subjects are covered throughout the primary phase Learning is designed to be active, with emphasis on talk and movement and development of metacognition Pupils encounter a wide range of experiences (places, transport, residential visits) and work with peers across year groups to build knowledge and skills The curriculum map ensures coverage of all subjects with clear year-group expectations and progression

Admissions Criteria

The proposed admissions arrangements include changes to oversubscription criteria: EHCP naming the school continues to be admitted before all other applicants; Looked After and Previously Looked After children remain the highest priority; the exceptional medical or social needs criterion requires professional evidence that the child’s needs can only be met at this school; the sibling criterion includes half-siblings, step-siblings and children living at the same address within the same family unit; parish-based or multi-church categories have been replaced with a single, optional faith-based criterion requiring regular Church of England worship via a Supplementary Information Form; two-band attendance model is used; distance from the school is the final oversubscription criterion; if distances are equal, places are allocated by independent random allocation.
