River Academy opened in September 2024 as a brand-new, state-of-the-art secondary school within the Maiden Erlegh Trust. Founding Headteacher Andrew Hartley emphasises high standards, inclusivity, respect for the community, and a commitment to helping every student succeed. SEND Provision

The Bridge, our Moderate Learning Difficulty resource base, supports students with additional needs; teaching assistants provide bespoke interventions and high-quality classroom practice to enable inclusive learning.

Admissions Criteria

River Academy admissions are managed within Reading Borough Council by Brighter Futures for Children. In-year transfers and how to apply for a Year 7 start are handled by the local authority. Reading residents should apply to Reading Borough Council; residents of other authorities should apply via their own local authority who will forward the application to Reading Borough Council. An online Parent Portal is available for residents of Reading. A Supplementary Information Form (SIF) must be returned with your application if applying under oversubscription criterion 2 (children eligible for the Pupil Premium).
