Blessed Hugh has been on a consistent improvement journey for over seven years; the Headteacher describes a curriculum that develops students to live flourishing lives informed by Catholic faith and a character-forming ethos.

Curriculum Highlights

RE is the central core of the curriculum and there is strong English and Mathematics teaching to provide the strongest possible platform for success in all subjects. The curriculum includes a broad range of subjects such as French & Spanish, Geography, History, Music, Art, Design Technology, Food, Drama, and Computer Science. Key Stage 4 offers option subjects including Business, Sociology and a range of BTEC courses such as Health and Social Care, Sport, Business and Enterprise. At Key Stage 5 we offer courses such as Philosophy and Ethics, Government and Politics, Psychology and the Extended Project Qualification.

SEND Provision

The school has a Learning Support department consisting of the SENDCO, the Deputy SENDCO, a Literacy Teaching Assistant and a team of Teaching Assistants, and a specialist ASD Resource Base called The Blessed Mary Ward Centre. The Resource supports students with Autism who access mainstream education. All students in the Resource have an EHCP with a primary diagnosis of Autism.
