Head Teacher's Message

BG is a primary school on the edge of Barnsley with around 300 pupils, focused on high-quality teaching and a well-sequenced curriculum. Pupils behave well, are kind, and enjoy exciting, challenging lessons. OfSTED 2024 noted personalised adjustments and that reading is a strength; school offers a wide range of clubs and co-curricular activities. Headteacher: Joe Woffinden.

BG is described as a fully inclusive setting with SENDCo Rachel Tarbuck; Inclusion Team includes the SENDCo, a Learning Mentor (Glenda Larkin) and Teaching Assistants who support learning and interventions.

Admissions Criteria

Admissions follow Education Act 1988; standard admission number (SAN) for Reception is 45 in Reception; if SAN is not exceeded, places offered; priority order: (1) children with a statement of SEN named for the school; (2) children in public care; (3) children with brothers/sisters at the school; (4) children living nearest the school (straight-line distance). Transition to school includes minimum two visits, a home visit, an open evening, and opportunities to visit prior to starting.
