Curriculum Highlights

Reading is a key area of focus within the academy; two strands: whole school reading and reading interventions Enrichment programme includes the Duke of Edinburgh award, inclusion groups, sports teams, expressive arts performances and weekly clubs Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) programme is interwoven across our taught curriculum; at Key Stage 4 every student is offered independent careers advice

SEND Provision

Monkton Wood Academy provides SEND support with identification of needs using data, observations and assessments; four categories of need: Cognition and Learning; Social, Emotional, Mental Health; Communication & Interaction; Physical and Sensory.

Admissions Criteria

The Academy is the admission authority. It has an agreed admission number of 240 pupils for most year groups, with Year 7 accepting 270. In-year applications must be submitted directly to the academy using the local authority in-year application form (hard copy only). Proof of address must be submitted with the application. Parents have the right of appeal to an Independent Appeal Panel if they are dissatisfied with an admission decision; there is a right of appeal to an Independent Appeals panel for unsuccessful applicants, to be done within 20 school days from receipt of the refusal letter.
