Curriculum Highlights

The Compass Curriculum is inclusive of the EYFS curriculum and the National Curriculum, and maximises cross-curricular opportunities and the fluent use of English and Maths to enhance progress. Curriculum progression is mapped for Reading, Writing, Maths, Science, Computing and Foundation Subjects across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, with knowledge planned across frameworks to be built on and revisited to deepen mastery. The curriculum aims to narrow the gap for disadvantaged pupils and includes targeted keeping-up sessions to ensure key knowledge is accessible to all. "Knowing More and Remembering More" guides the approach to knowledge acquisition and retention, with connections made across subjects to enable problem solving. Phonics, handwriting and number sense are taught systematically in the Early Years and throughout Year 1. Whole School Projects provide inspirational contexts and opportunities to show progression in learning across the year. KS2 delivers French as the foreign language. Learning is designed to develop confident, independent, and inquisitive learners with a broad understanding of past, present, and future contexts.

SEND Provision

Boxgrove DSP is a Royal Borough of Greenwich Designated Special Provision for children with a diagnosis of Autism. Admissions are decided by the Local Authority panel and criteria include: clear medical diagnosis of Autism, primary need clearly Autism, ability to verbally communicate without full reliance on communication aids (though SALT support may be used), and the child’s ability to potentially manage some time in a mainstream class. The DSP focuses on individualised planning, collaborative work between the Lead Teacher, SENCo and other professionals (including Willow Dene when planning and tailoring the curriculum), and enables opportunities for learning both inside and outside the classroom (including weekly park visits and Forest School). Pupils are involved in formulating long-term goals and there is strong emphasis on home–school partnership and regular consultation with staff.

Admissions Criteria

Primary admissions are processed through Royal Borough of Greenwich. First priority goes to children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) naming Boxgrove. After this, admissions follow the borough’s priority order. For in-year admissions, the same policy applies. Nursery admissions offer 26 morning and 26 afternoon places. If a place is not offered, there is a right to appeal using Royal Borough of Greenwich procedures.
