Head Teacher's Message

At The John Roan School we are relentless in our pursuit of excellence, aiming to ignite ambition through teaching that empowers and inspires; we provide a calm, disruption-free learning environment and a strong character education programme. We are ambitious as well as inclusive, welcoming students from all backgrounds, faiths and abilities, and we aim for every learner to achieve their best in an environment that stretches and challenges them. Literacy and mastery of language are at the heart of our approach; we use technologies such as Chromebooks to support learning, and provide opportunities to lead and to serve the local community. The John Roan Foundation offers extensive facilities, a Scholarship Programme, free music lessons and more, and we enjoy close community links through the JRSA.

SEND Provision

Centre for Autism (CFA) is a designated specialist provision within The John Roan School. It has a total of 16 places for students with autism across Years 7-11. The CFA is based at the Westcombe Park site and includes an Autism-friendly classroom and sensory space, with an annexe at the Maze Hill site. The provision uses the mainstream timetable and works with the Inclusion Team; families should contact the SENCO for enquiries. CFA staff deliver the mainstream curriculum with some lessons taught by subject specialists and the CFA team; students have access to social opportunities and regular involvement in school activities.
