Head Teacher's Message

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you, on behalf of the children, staff and governors, to Oakwood Junior School. We aim to provide a warm, welcoming and supportive environment in which our pupils develop a lifelong love of learning. Our dedicated team aims to help every child to face their individual challenges with courage and determination and to discover their own unique talents and strengths. We are totally committed to removing barriers to learning and developing in each child a 'take care' attitude to work and a social 'take care' conscience, as well as a shared pride in achievement in all its forms.

Admissions Criteria

Applications for a Derby City Council school place are made through Derby City Council. The school considers the application against its admissions criteria. If the school has not reached its Published Admission Number, a place will be offered; if a school is over its Published Admission Number, the application will be refused and the right of appeal offered. For 2025-26, applications can be made from 1 November 2025 and the online closing date is 15 January 2026. The National Offer Day for all applications is 16 April 2026. The pupil will be admitted into the school by the date stated on the offer letter, usually between two to three weeks from the date of application.
