Headteacher Katy Harrison describes Thomas Bewick School as a specialist provision for autistic pupils (4–19) with autism-specific environment and staff trained in autism approaches; notes the Ofsted 2023 inspection as Good, highlights a broad and ambitious curriculum, nurturing relationships, and strong links with multi-agency partners.

Curriculum Highlights

Autism-specific approaches, strategies and resources used in teaching. Individual Progress Plans (IPP) based on Education Health and Care Plans (EHCP). IPP targets are monitored through termly progress meetings and reviews. Flexible curriculum pathways: Reception, Engager, Explorer, Discoverer, and post-14 Steps into Independence and Steps into Work. Assessment frameworks with pathway-specific data capture and termly progress reviews. Curriculum aims across life stages include developing communication, social/emotional skills, independence and preparation for adulthood.
