Head Teacher's Message

Appleton Academy is an extraordinary school. The Executive Headteacher expresses pride in leading and learning from our children, young people and staff, emphasizes an all-through family and community that inspires, nurtures and helps individuals to be their best, values the unique child, and aims to raise achievement through education that develops aspirations and dreams. The vision and ethos are supported by Exceed Academies Trust.

Curriculum Highlights

The Appleton Academy Scholars Programme was created in February 2024. The programme has been developed with support from Andy Griffith, a renowned educational consultant, teacher, trainer and writer. The Scholars Programme aims to counteract the structural bias in society against working class children achieving success in their adult lives. It targets students who have the potential to achieve a university degree or higher level apprenticeship. The programme is based around a co-curricular model with in-school Scholars sessions, experiential learning, and parental engagement. Most sessions will take place within school time, including trips, and the content includes knowledge, attitudes, skills and habits (KASH) gained through formal sessions and informal learning opportunities. An in-school Scholars session is presented twice per half term and lasts over two hours on average. Experiences (speakers or visits) occur at least once per half-term. Extra-curricular events are provided, including visits to Russell Group universities and talks from Oxford and Cambridge representatives.

Admissions Criteria

In-year admissions are defined as applications for admission to Reception or Year 7 which are submitted on or after the first day of the school year of admission, or applications for any other year group. The school is part of the Local Authority’s in-year co-ordination scheme for in-year admissions. Details of this scheme can be found online here: In-year admissions | Bradford Council, or you can contact the School Admissions Team by emailing [email protected] or by telephoning 01274 439200. Parents or carers living within the Bradford District who would like their child to move to our school should first contact their child’s current school to discuss the reasons for the transfer.
