Curriculum Highlights

Reading is the gateway to the curriculum and reading is a strong feature across all subjects; daily phonics in the Foundation Stage and KS1 with Sounds-Write; KS2 students study novels to develop comprehension and a love of books. The maths curriculum follows a mastery approach; Reception uses Mastering Number; Years 1 to 6 follow Maths No Problem and include deeper thinking tasks and mental maths practice; learning is built on using a range of contexts and representations. Sounds-Write phonics is introduced in Reception (YR), taught in KS1 and refined through KS2; students master the 175 most common spellings of the 44 sounds in English. The year is split into three themes for all year groups: Discover, Explore, Belong (Our Global Citizenship Overview). Creativity, collaboration, communication and critical thinking are key features of the curriculum; reading is central to learning across subjects and supports background knowledge and cultural capital.
