Curriculum Highlights

English follows the National Curriculum; Read Write Inc phonics taught systematically in Early Years and Key Stage 1; banded reading books; weekly comprehension; writing taught across the curriculum; Nelson handwriting; grammar, punctuation and spelling taught daily. Mathematics follows the National Curriculum; use of Purple Mash (KS1), Mirodo (LKS2) and SATs Companion (UKS2) for homework; weekly problem-solving lessons. Science taught through whole days with personalized schemes of work. RE lessons based on SACRE, the locally-agreed syllabus. History, Geography taught with bespoke schemes of work covering British, European and World history and UK/overseas geography. Computing lessons based on the Purple Mash scheme. PE lessons using Val Sabin schemes; swimming taught externally to Years 3-5 by specialist teachers. PSHE is taught using the PSHE Association curriculum; SRE taught in all years at an age-appropriate level. Music follows the Charanga scheme; cross-topic performance, listening, review and evaluation. Art explores the history of artists and a range of mediums; visual and tactile expression and communication. Design and Technology combines practical skills with aesthetics, social and environmental considerations. MFL: KS2 students learn key French phrases.
