Head Teacher's Message

Welcome from Headteacher Leona Kelly: It is with great pride that I welcome you to our thriving academy; Burnside Academy is a small school where teaching is tailored to meet each pupil’s needs, with a strong emphasis on safety, high aspirations and developing confident, responsible learners.

Admissions Criteria

Nursery admissions: The academy takes children from age three; parents can register their interest for a nursery place by visiting the academy reception and bringing a copy of the child’s birth certificate. Nursery places are allocated in accordance with the academy's admissions criteria. Reception admissions: The Local Authority administers the admissions process on behalf of the academy; apply via Sunderland City Council. In-year admissions: Transfers from another school; to arrange a visit contact the academy office; to transfer, collect a transfer form from the current school and have it forwarded to Sunderland City Council’s Admissions Service.
