Curriculum Highlights

Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9): Lessons in English, Mathematics, Science, Art & Design, Computing, Drama, Food Technology, Geography, History, Music, Physical Education, PSHE and Religious Studies; one Modern Foreign Language (French or Spanish) taught in Years 7-9; Year 9 students choose GCSE options. Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11): Core = English Language, English Literature, Mathematics and Science (Double/Triple); Religious Studies is a compulsory GCSE; PSHE and Physical Education are non-examined; optional GCSEs include Art & Design, Business Studies, Computer Science, Drama, French, Geography, History, Music, PE, Spanish and Textiles; one supplementary subject required to meet Progress 8. Key Stage 5: Sixth Form has approximately 200 students with over 20 subjects offered at A Level and BTEC, taught by subject specialists. Music and Mathematics: Specialist Music and Mathematics status; Shanghai Maths Mastery approach used in Maths; partnership with Crown Lane Studio for music production; accreditation with Music Mark; opportunities to study music at GCSE/A Level/BTEC and pursue university/conservatoire pathways.

SEND Provision

The Bethany Centre provides comprehensive support and inclusion across the school, meeting the needs of all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs, English as an additional language, or personal challenges like bereavement. The centre hosts coffee mornings and drop-in sessions and works with outside agencies as needed.

Admissions Criteria

Year 7 admissions: 180 places total. 90 Foundation places offered to children whose parents/guardians are practising members of a Christian church and 90 Open places; within these, nine Foundation and nine Open places are allocated for Specialist Music. Applications follow Local Authority Common Application Form; supplementary forms are required for Foundation and/or Specialist Music places; religious reference for Foundation places requires attendance of twice a month for at least two years. Open places are offered to children living nearest to the school by straight-line distance.
