Oracy is at the heart of the curriculum, developing speaking, listening and thinking; high-quality talk is a key feature of lessons Book-based approach to writing with a range of genres; Writer of the Week and certificates to celebrate writing Daily phonics and reading, with Letters and Sounds-based programme in use; NCETM Mastery of Number for maths in Year 2 Seven areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage: Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, Expressive Arts and Design Strong link between indoor and outdoor provision with sequential, progressive learning and frequent opportunities for sustained shared thinking Language-rich environment; use of high-quality texts to promote reading; supportive for children new to English Handwriting development using the Nelson Handwriting Scheme; emphasis on spelling via phonics and the Rising Stars Spelling programme in later years Assessment includes ongoing observational assessments, weekly team discussions, termly progress meetings, and standardised/ statutory assessments such as Reception Baseline and Early Years Foundation Stage Profile; moderation with SLT, local authority and other schools

Admissions Criteria

Silvertrees welcomes visits to help families decide if the school is right for their child. The school offers standard morning (8:30–11:30) and afternoon (12:30–3:30) sessions, and also provides full-time places for children who are 2 and 3 years old. Nursery applications can be emailed back to [email protected], and parents can apply for a school place via Sandwell Local Authority (information booklet: Sandwell Admission Booklet 2025-2026). The school also notes that transfer forms may be obtained from the current school and forwarded to the Local Authority.
