Head Teacher's Message

Headteacher Russell Wood welcomes visitors to City Academy Whitehawk, emphasising 'Highest Expectations for All' and the belief that every child can flourish with nurtured potential, safety, and high-quality teaching. He highlights a strong commitment to literacy, sport, and going the extra mile for the community, along with a broad, ambitious curriculum and a culture of high expectations for staff, pupils and families.

Curriculum Highlights

Read Write Inc is prioritised in Nursery to Year 2 with rapid progress in reading KS2 students study one novel per term with daily reading and comprehension activities Curriculum emphasises language development across subjects through Reading Curriculum and Speaking and Listening provisions Effective pre- and post-assessment supports progression and targeting of next steps (including CAW Values and targets) Educational visits are planned with curriculum links to the locality (East Brighton and the South Downs) Sports Premium funding is used to enhance the school day and broaden extracurricular opportunities CAW provides a well-resourced environment including a gym, stage, music room, and extensive ICT resources (Chromebooks and iPads)

Wraparound Care

Breakfast Club: Yes

Breakfast Club runs from 08:00 daily; a leader will admit children at the external canteen gate, followed by handwashing and breakfast choices (porridge, cereals, fruit, toast, bagels, pancakes and croissants). The gate closes at 08:10. No booking is required; after breakfast, children have activities in their bubbles on the North Playground. CAW has a SEND Information Report and a named SENCO (Gabby Gosztonyi).
