Curriculum Highlights

The curriculum is based on the National Curriculum with core subjects Maths, English and Science, plus ICT, PE, History, Geography, Design and Technology, Art, Music, Religious Education and Modern Foreign Languages (MFL), and includes Citizenship, Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE). A creative thematic curriculum where areas of learning are linked to motivate learning and develop transferable skills. A knowledge-based curriculum with unit rationales and progression documents used by staff; regular consolidation of key knowledge across years. Lessons are taught using Rosenshine Principles with key vocabulary, retrieval practice, and contextual use of words; use of Kagan structures; modeling and chunking; sentence stems and scaffolds. The Hill Primary is a reading school with a focus on reading fluency and enjoyment; students encounter a range of texts and opportunities to write across subjects. Fundamental British values are taught and celebrated throughout school life, including assemblies and PSHE/SMSC focus. Curriculum drivers are the school values: Scholarship, Curiosity, Tenacity, Empathy, Pride; curriculum subjects include Art, Computing, Design and Technology, English, EYFS, Geography, History, Maths, Modern Foreign Languages, PE, PSHE, RE, Science, Sex and Relationships Education; Safeguarding is highlighted as part of the curriculum. Staff monitor and assess progression using unit rationales, knowledge organisers, and progression mapping to close gaps and support learning
