Head Teacher's Message

I’m Sharon Beddow, the Head Teacher. I have worked at Hope Corner for the last 2 years, prior to that I worked in another Independent School for 10 years. I have worked in special education for over 20 years, and I enjoy it and learn from the students and staff.

Curriculum Highlights

3 core areas: personal development, vocational and academic learning. Theme Based Teaching delivering Art, History, Geography and STEM through a theme-based approach. Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning: developing resilience, emotional wellbeing and communication skills. Core Subject Teaching: Maths and English; Spelling and reading promoted across the curriculum. Experiential Learning: learning through experiences outside the classroom. Educational Visits: at least one educational visit each term. Personal Development: citizenship, beliefs and values, independent living and social and emotional development. The Hidden Curriculum: nurturing, calm environments and learning opportunities during breaks and other times. British Values: democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith.

SEND Provision

Hope Corner School provides 1:1 support for students within a small-class setting; staff are with students throughout the day including breaks and lunchtimes to support individual needs; therapy is available to increase self-confidence, communication and relationships.

Admissions Criteria

Hope Corner welcomes visits from Local Authorities; enquiries about places should be made to the headteacher; arrangements for visits are made as part of the referral process; a copy of the EHCP, the last AER minutes and any other relevant documents are required to make an informed decision.
