Curriculum Highlights

Core curriculum in Year 7 includes English, Maths, Science, Geography, History, RE and French. Extended curriculum offers an additional language, Spanish. In Year 9 students begin to specialise in three of the foundation subjects; Year 10 becomes more specialised with a greater range of subject options. Skills for Life combines PSHE with Digital skills; online safety is covered in Digital Skills for Life. A Gatsby benchmarks-compliant careers programme starts from Year 7 with speakers, college visits, and a Year 10 mock interview day.

Admissions Criteria

The Dorcan Academy admission principle is to maintain the character of a 11–16 comprehensive community school. There is no guarantee of a place for children from feeder primary schools (Covingham Park, Eldene, Goddard Park, Liden, Nythe), but they are given priority in oversubscription. The school will endeavour to provide places for students who have not attended a named feeder school if accommodation allows. Applications must be made through the Swindon Borough Council Local Authority Co-ordinated Scheme. The school’s admissions officer is Mrs Titcombe. For visits and tours, contact Mrs Hitchen.
