Admissions Criteria

Wandle Valley Academy offers places for pupils experiencing Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH). Pupils are admitted from year 1 to year 9 and the academy offers a curriculum for years 1–11. The academy has a published Pupil Admission Number (PAN) of 80. Arrangements for date of admission, transport and other logistics are made by the individual Local Authority. All pupils admitted to Wandle Valley Academy will have an EHCP. A pupil will be admitted if they fall within the terms of the current approval for the Academy and when the child has an EHCP/Statement named for Wandle Valley Academy; assessment will occur with relevant professionals and parents/carers when immediate action is deemed necessary. Prior to naming the Academy in an EHCP/Statement, the Local Authority will consult with parents/carers and the Governing Body (with the Headteacher typically handling the duty). If a parent/carer expresses a preference for Wandle Valley Academy, the academy will try to offer a place unless it is unsuitable or would adversely affect other pupils or resources. The admissions pathway involves initial visits to the academy by the LA or SEN teams, possible second visits or trial sessions, and, if appropriate, a placement offer letter to the LA SEN. If additional funding is requested, this will be detailed in the placement offer letter. If agreed, Wandle Valley Academy will be named as the new academy in the EHCP. Dates are set for start, and liaison with service providers continues as needed.
