Head Teacher's Message

The Headteacher, Mrs Jo Ford, welcomes visitors and emphasizes The Academy, Selsey’s commitment to an outstanding, inclusive education delivered in partnership with parents, the local community and TKAT. The message highlights a new bespoke building opened in 2019, high aspirations for student behaviour and achievement, and a focus on enrichment and opportunities inside and outside the classroom.

Curriculum Highlights

Reading, literacy and numeracy are at the heart of our curriculum; students have the opportunity to develop their reading through our Accelerated Reader and reciprocal reading tutor programmes. A 5-year curriculum learning journey designed to build depth and breadth of knowledge; each subject has its own scheme of work and a five-year flight path. Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) covers a broad range of subjects and includes an extended school day with enrichment and additional academic experiences. Key Stage 4 offers GCSE and vocational/technical qualifications with a broad options list (e.g., History, Geography, French, Spanish, IT, Computer Science, Food and Catering, Product Design, Art, Music, Dance, Drama, PE, Business Studies/Enterprise, Child Development). Assessment methods include knowledge tests, end-of-term tests, end-of-year exams, and formative feedback (AFL); departments use termly marking and external moderation.
