The subjects we offer are under constant review to ensure that we are providing our students with everything they need to succeed after they leave school. SEND at Pilton is designed to be ambitious for all and to offer an inclusive, knowledge-rich and purposeful curriculum that inspires, challenges and nurtures; it promotes resilience and courage; it is efficiently resourced to support progress; it strives to eliminate gaps in prior learning, skills and cultural capital; it creates enrichment opportunities; it provides aspirational pathways accessible to all interests and abilities; it empowers all to reach challenging targets and a successful transition into adulthood; it is regularly reviewed in response to changing needs. All departments have mapped the knowledge that will be covered in each subject over five years to ensure that the sequence of teaching is logical, allows clear progression, and builds on prior knowledge. Regular revision and planned assessments of prior learning ensure students develop their memory skills and ability to retain key knowledge over time, enabling them to have a solid foundation on which to build a deeper understanding in each subject.
