Ethos & Values

Kind Curious Ambitious

Head Teacher's Message

Headteacher Will Penny welcomes families to Backwell School, highlighting the school’s breadth of opportunity, progressive ethos, and core values of being Kind, Curious and Ambitious, with a focus on supporting academic success and a vibrant, inclusive community.

SEND Provision

Backwell School provides a broad, inclusive curriculum with SEND provision described as Wave 1 universal support in mainstream classes; a small group of pupils may receive Wave 2 interventions (literacy, numeracy, speech and language development, wellbeing and social skills) and some pupils with persistent and complex needs may receive Wave 3 bespoke support (potentially supported by an EHCP); provision is monitored and involves collaboration with parents when tailoring support.

Admissions Criteria

In Year Admissions: Places arising 'in-year' are rare and so parents interested in gaining a place for their child should email [email protected]. We cannot offer tours of the school. However, all families will be invited in to visit us if we can offer a place when applying 'in-year'. Admissions requests and enquiries are dealt with during term time only.
