"Nurturing Excellence"
Thank you for visiting the Devonport High School for Girls’ website. I am proud to lead a school where staff and Trustees value each young person and support them on their journey into adulthood. Our mission is to ensure that every student receives an exceptional educational experience through a wealth of opportunities within a nurturing environment, leading to outstanding achievements. DHSG combines a 21st‑century grammar school ethos with traditional academic strengths.
DHSG provides SEND and additional support through the Student Support Team, including SEN drop-in, home learning support, social skills groups, anxiety and anger management groups, confidence and self-esteem groups, Young Carers support, 1-2-1 support, counselling, careers advice, literacy support, and extended exam technique. The school uses a graduated approach (Assess–Plan–Do–Review) and works with external agencies (e.g. CAMHS, Local Authority services) to provide appropriate support. The SENCo leads on SEND policy, EHCP coordination, Pen Portraits for staff, and enhanced transition planning to ensure students with SEND can access the curriculum and achieve their potential.
Admissions are made via Plymouth City Council and are based on academic ability, with all candidates required to sit the 11+ examination (Quest English Comprehension and Mathematics). The published Year 7 PAN is 158. The real 11+ examinations are held on two Saturday mornings in September; practice exams are optional; registration closes August 31. The 11+ papers assess English Comprehension and Mathematics; verbal/non-verbal/spatial reasoning are not tested. In-year admissions are via Plymouth City Council with satisfactory testing. Upper Years (Sixth Form) admissions require a GCSE average grade of 6 or higher, with at least grade 5 in English and Mathematics; subject-specific requirements apply (e.g., Psychology requires a 6 in Maths or Science and a 6 in English; Business requires 6 in Maths and 6 in English).
