KS3: Curriculum Areas and Departments; two-week timetable of 48 x 1 hour lessons plus 2 x 1 hour assembly/PSE; subjects include English, Maths, Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Modern Languages (French & German), Humanities (Geography, History, Politics, Religious Studies), PE, Drama, Music, Social Sciences (Psychology, Sociology), Business Studies, Economics, Art, Photography, Computing, Design & Technology and Food Preparation & Nutrition; KS3 = Years 7-9; KS4 = GCSEs; KS5 = A levels with EPQ and enrichment. KS4: All students study GCSE English Language, GCSE English Literature, GCSE Maths, GCSE Science (Combined or Triple), GCSE French or German, GCSE Religious Studies, GCSE in a Humanity, Core PE, PSE; options include Art and Design, Business Studies, Computer Science, Design & Technology, Drama, Food Preparation and Nutrition, Geography, History, Music, PE, Textiles; approximately half opt for Triple Science. KS5: Majority study 3 A levels (some study 4); EPQ offered as additional qualification; enrichment through Independent Learning Modules, short courses, work experience and voluntary work. Two-week timetable: 48 x 1 hour subject lessons plus 2 x 1 hour assembly/PSE.

Admissions Criteria

Urmston Grammar is an 11-18 selective academy. For Year 7 entry in September 2026, admission is by entrance examination. Online registration to sit the Urmston Grammar Entrance Examination opens at 12:00 noon on Thursday 24 April 2025 and closes at 12:00 noon on Friday 20 June 2025. Date of birth must be between 1 September 2014 and 31 August 2015. The entrance examination will consist of two tests (verbal skills, non-verbal skills and mathematics). The Trafford Grammar School Consortium (including Altrincham Grammar School for Boys, Altrincham Grammar School for Girls, Sale Grammar School, Stretford Grammar School and Urmston Grammar) administers the test; GL Assessment is the test provider.
